I just love the new Maverick. It’s perfect for me and my golf instruction equipment, bicycles, turf supplies, mowers, aerators, sodcutters, towing backhoes or whatever I need to pull. 4000 pound towing and 1500 pound payload capacity in a little turbo four cylinder 2.0 liter EcoBoost. It’s zippy, super comfortable, and gets great gas miliage. They offer a hybrid model that gets nearly 40mpg. I wish this was a paid advertisement for @ford but it’s not haha #fordmaverick #golfmobile

30 years ago this morning @coxy_boxy raced over my house to wake me up and tell me the news that we all always feared, the death of our beloved Jerry Garcia. That day marked the end of our 3+ year multi-state run with Jerry Garcia Band and the Grateful Dead during high school. We managed to see Jerry at least a couple dozen times at the end of the final few years of their 30 year existence. Their history began at home where we live, Mid-SF Peninsula from the days of Dana Morgan’s shop in Palo Alto, Magoo’s Pizza Parlour in Menlo Park, Tressider at Stanford, all the way through the Winterland and Frost years, all over the States, internationally several times, and back home for many many tours, including their last, Summer 1995 where the Dead played Shoreline for the band’s final home appearance in June of that year. I got to be up front below the stage on Jerry’s side for that last show, I had no idea at the time what that would mean. I cherish those experiences with all my friends when Jerry was alive, we GOT it and loved doing it. We who know will always miss Jerry and the only true Grateful Dead (~};-)⚡️ 💀 🌹

Last week, we had to lay our beloved Beauceron to rest after a long, happy, and healthy life. Tayla was a wonderful pet, the sweetest big dog I’ve ever known.

My relationship with her began in 2019 when I met my wife Cali. She came as a package deal: an amazing 15-year-old daughter, a black cat, and an 8-year-old Beauceron named Tayla. I was lucky enough to spend six great years with that dog, and she made it all the way to 14, well past her breed’s life expectancy.

Tayla’s spirit was still strong, but her body was failing, and we knew it was time to stop being selfish and let her go peacefully and comfortably. I loved that dog SO much.

I’m especially grateful she got to be a momma to our puppy, Bosa, for about a year before she passed. We got Bosa from the same breeder in Florida, and they’re distantly related down the line. Tayla is survived by him.

Tayla’s life and passing felt full and beautiful. I hope it felt that way to her, too. And I hope anyone who has a pet gets to experience the kind of deep connection we were lucky to have with ours. ❤️

The best way to experience Poppy Ridge is on foot. Moving down the fairway into the front of the greens gives a perspective of the holes the way the architect intended and therefore, the best direction from which to formulate a proper strategy. Golf is a game in a cart but a sport on foot. Hoof it!

On Monday, the day after my brother-in-law of 30 years passed away, my niece Sadie and I went to the Mets game in Queens and got an extra seat for her dad and his favorite Mets hat for a tribute in his memory. We recreated the picture Matt and Sadie took together in front of the Shea apple every time they went to the games together. We got matching Matthew Silver jerseys with his Broadway Softball League number that he wore for years while playing for the Atlantic Theater Company at Central Park on Thursday nights. He has now been immortalized at the Citi Field/Shea Stadium complex and the Mets have not lost since his passing and during these three days of shiva. Rest in peace my brother, thank you for your consistent love for me through all of our ups and downs over the last few decades and for giving my sister a love that was as big and strong as a life love can be. It’s been an honor to be part of your immediate family and that’s where we will remain forever- brothers. Let’s fucking go Mets, they’ll get another eventually, I promise! Haha see you when I finally get there too, I am looking forward to hitting some balls together again ⛳️ ⚾️ ❤️ 🙏

This is a driver session with my student Collin using augmented feedback (@flightscopegolf Mevo+ and @onform_app video analysis) while working specifically on vertical plane and clubhead path for my PGA Level 3 Teaching and Coaching work.

This is a pretty clear indication of how plane influences path. Generally the steeper the plane on the downswing, the more the clubhead moves out-to-in of the target line through the impact zone. Conversely, the flatter the downswing, the more in-to-out (or in this case, less out-to-in).

Pretrial we measured an average of 5.6 degrees out-to-in in Collin’s “stock” swing with a slight casting of the shaft at P5 “, and after adjustment we found that the average improved to 1.9 out-to-in, a pretty significant change in a short period of time (15min) that also lowered driver spin (3424 to 2676), decreased launch angle due in part to his ability to control the face (open = high, square = lower, closed = lowest), and increased distance (232 carry to 248 average). An unintended or result at this stage was higher swing speed (+3 mph), and better centerness of contact.

But any teaching professional can get a student to make a swing look better for before and after pictures within one lesson but what is more important is longitudinal changes so we will check back in the following several weeks. In the meantime he will spend some time normalizing this feel through motor learning (many reps!) and coming back to measure again after his solo work to see if he is getting closer to swing a couple degrees in-to-out naturally. This is his goal because he prefers to see the ball curve slightly right than a push fade poof ball or slice to the left!

This rental has been super fun! After spending a week with it I think I may need one. This is a 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug in hybrid with the Sahara trim that I rented from Enterprise. I would have to say I’ve always been a fan of Gary Woodland. Fun to see him back at Pebble where he won the US Open a few years ago. I’m certainly a fan of his controlled power fade fairway-finder. Especially as someone who has struggled with a hook, this looks absolutely gorgeous to me and my one golf goal that I set for the new year.

Bounce 101: High bounce not enough? Open the face a little! Not only does it increase effective bounce, the leading edge is now also not pointed directly at the target line so it has a better chance of gliding across the turf and skipping under the ball for lift. Harder to dig when the edge is at an angle!

A quick thought after my Monday morning mow: more pitching! Just think shoulders when putting, chipping and even pitching. It helps make sure the sternum is following the grip back and through and puts less thought into, and “silences”, the arms.
